چکیده
Our understanding of turbulent boundary layer scaling and structure has advanced greatly in the past 20 to 30 years. On computational side, direct numerical simulations large-eddy have made extraordinary contributions as methods resources advanced, while on experimental side major advances instrumentation available new imaging quantitative techniques that provide unprecedented accuracy detail. Here, I illustrate how development such aided our progress by reference some particular topics related layers: power law mean velocity its relationship mesolayer; outer with regard log turbulence; peak; stresses near-wall region, an emphasis streamwise component.

متن کاملCoherent structures in wall-bounded turbulence.
The inherent difficulty of understanding turbulence has led to researchers attacking the topic in many different ways over the years of turbulence research. Some approaches have been more successful than others, but most only deal with part of the problem. One approach that has seen reasonable success (or at least popularity) is that of attempting to deconstruct the complex and disorganised tur...
متن کاملPhenomenology of wall-bounded Newtonian turbulence.
We construct a simple analytic model for wall-bounded turbulence, containing only four adjustable parameters. Two of these parameters are responsible for the viscous dissipation of the components of the Reynolds stress tensor. The other two parameters control the nonlinear relaxation of these objects. The model offers an analytic description of the profiles of the mean velocity and the correlat...
متن کاملThe Influence of Spatial Resolution due to Hot-Wire Sensors on Measurements in Wall-Bounded Turbulence
Reassessment of compiled data reveal that recorded scatter in the hot-wire measured near-wall peak in viscous-scaled streamwise turbulence intensity is due in large part to the simultaneous competing effects of Reynolds number and viscous-scaled wire-length l ( lUτ ν, where l is the wirelength, Uτ is friction velocity and ν is kinematic viscosity). These competing factors can explain much of th...
